I’m tired. Not just a little tired mind you. I’m talking bone-tired, feet-draggin’, head droppin’, just want to flop down and call it a day, tired.
And I’m not the only one who feels done and done.
Readers message me pretty regular and they give me varied versions of the same thing.
Folks are plumb worn out.
Between the 24/7 news cycle, the barrage of social media, bills on top of bills, the doom and gloom prognosticators, do this, try that, go there, be here…man, you all know what I mean, right?
I’d give almost anything for some peace and quiet.
Granted, it’s been one heck of a busy year between moving, not moving, moving again, a child’s graduation, both kids now in college, family health issues, trips to and from…my tired has grown tired.
And then you turn on the news. You know you shouldn’t because it’ll either just make you mad or make you madder. There’s not much in-between these days when it comes to current events. Again, my readers have expressed a similar distress. We’re parents and grandparents, right? We worry about what this world has become and where it’s going. We read the signs. We know the dangers. We’re just smart enough to figure out there’s more wrong than right going on all around us and it’s closing in a little more, day by day.
It’s enough to keep a fella up at night staring at the ceiling and praying God might be so inclined as to let the rest of us know it’s gonna be OK.
Just the other day I made the mistake of sitting down and turning on a segment being broadcast by one of the major cable news networks and on there was a panel of “experts” who were throwing verbal daggers at each other. Half were men, half were women, and not a one of them conducted themselves like reasonable human beings. I know this scenario all too well. I’ve seen it up close and it’s never pretty.
It was hatred that news network was broadcasting – pure and unfiltered. Those people weren’t communicating so much as snarling at each other. It was pathetic, sad, and in the end, without any semblance of actual intellectual merit.
Just hate piled atop hate, followed by a drug commercial for depression.
It’s all enough to make a person…depressed.
I sure hope things improve. We can’t continue being so divided and so unwilling to listen to one another. There’s no need for everyone to agree so long as we all respect each other’s right to disagree. Hate shouldn’t be a part of that process.
Maybe enough of us will learn that. Maybe not.
I don’t care.
I care too much.
